Autumn in Montana
Sometimes we wonder what the fuss is all about when folks talk about going back East to see the ìfall color.î Granted, the East does have beautiful fall landscapes, but just look around us here in Montana. Youíll see the Aspens turning to ìpure gold,î the Cottonwoods along the rivers sporting their golden leaves, and Tamarack glittering in the higher forests. The fall is a favorite time of year for hikers. The autumn show Mother Nature puts on is so very gratifying. Hunters have even mentioned that they too notice how beautiful Montana is in the fall. While they are out bird hunting with their dogs, or hunting deer or elk --- they still canít resist taking the time out to just admire our beautiful state. If you havenít gotten out and enjoyed a Montana autumn, be sure to ìput it on your listî! You wonít regret it!

Happenings in and around Manhattan |
 |
The newest addition to our services in Manhattan is a bookstore ñ ìBooks Off Broadway.î The reason for the name is obvious ñ they are at 110 E. Main, just off Broadway! The owners, Cathy and Rich, were living on the west coast, and came to this area on vacation. They actually came to Manhattan to see the duck carvings at Big Sky Carvers. They instantly fell in love with the small town feeling here in Manhattan, went home, packed their belongings and here they are! They have been great for our GRR Bookclub to work with. They cheerfully will stock all the books chosen by our bookclub, making it easy for members to purchase books without driving into Bozeman. They carry a great supply of greeting cards and gifts as well. Rich has started another business he calls ìThe Manhattan Angler,î and has been teaching fly fishing lessons to folks in Manhattan. The community has embraced Cathy and Rich, and they are certainly giving back to the town by way of the services they enjoy and offer to others.
For the past several years, the City of Manhattan has worked on their ìGrowth Plan,î thus any additions to the city are being looked at very carefully and with good planning techniques. The newest additions approved for annexation to the city are two subdivisions on Farmall and Nixon Gulch Road. Centennial Village will be the smaller of the two, offering 82 residential and 15 commercial lots. Pioneer Crossing will be the premier addition, with approximately 266 parcels from 1/3 to 1/2 acres in size. Pioneer Crossing will also boast trails, ponds and parks for recreation. These subdivisions have been given preliminary approval, and expect final approval on or before June 2005. Anyone interested in knowing more about these subdivisions can call Gallatin River Realty in Manhattan (406/284-3400).

Welcome Brad! |
 |
We’re happy to welcome our new Sales Associate, Brad Price. Brad is a new addition to our offices here at the Ranch, and will also work out of the office in Manhattan (Gallatin River Realty) selling general real estate. Brad is so glad to be home again, back to his roots. He graduated from Manhattan High in the early eighties, and then served four years in the Air Force. The past several years he has been living in Iowa where he also worked as a Realtor. Brad was excited by the opportunity to move his family back to Montana. His wife Meaghan (Petersen) is a graduate of Ennis High School. They have three daughters attending school in Manhattan, and another daughter at home with Mom and still another at the University of Arkansas. (We think he’s trying for an all-girl basketball team!) Welcome Brad – we’re glad to have you here at the Ranch.

Our Equestrian Team has done a great job this year, planning and hosting some wonderful clinics and events. We are winding down now, going into winter, and wonít have more events booked until 2005, with some outstanding things in the planning stages. We would like to thank our 2004 clinicians ñ Clinton Anderson from Down Under Horsemanship, National Reined Cow Horse Futurity Champion Sandy Collier, Worldís Greatest Horseman Finalist Kevin Stallings, Laurie Erban, and Jeremy Young.
The ìOver the Hill Gangî meetings will resume monthly this winter with educational topics for the horse enthusiast. All homeowners and boarders are invited. Meetings will be held the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm. Our first meeting will be November 3rd. Call the Equestrian Center for more information on these meetings. (406/284-3782)
The Equestrian Center will be hosting a Christmas party for homeowners and boarders on Friday, December 17 at 6:00 PM. Please RSVP by December 15. This should be a fun evening! Weíd love everyone to come and celebrate this joyous season with us at the ìbarn.î Also, please stop by for a visit anytime and ask us about the ranch riding program or any upcoming events.
Those of you with horses ñ enjoy this wonderful fall weather weíre having. This is one of the best times of the year for riding on the ranch. Call a neighbor to come out and ride with you, and have fun exploring some of the hidden canyons and new places on the ranch you havenít been before. Over 6000 acres is a lot of territory to cover!
